Wheel bearings are sometimes taken for granted yet play a vital function and should be regarded as a safety critical component. The humble wheel bearing has to cope with axial & thrust loads, which depending on the tractor or operation undertaken can be quite considerable. With a very 'hands on' approach & using classic tractors this presentation looks at the routine maintenance tasks such as checking for play and subsequent adjustments. It then details the removal, inspection & replacement of a typical wheel bearing assembly along with the various problems that may occur. Although the tractors used are a Ford 4000 and a Fordson Super Dexta the procedures & operations shown will be applicable to other makes too.
